Landscape Design/Build Project Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

The Design/Build Project Manager is responsible for managing all field operations within the division.  The individual coordinates the procurement and scheduled use of resources, including labor, equipment and materials to ensure maximum use and completion of work within budget, safety guidelines and quality standards.   The Design/Build Project Manager promotes the growth and development of field staff and assists them in carrying out their responsibilities as needed, coordinates use of resources within other divisions and lends support to operational activities for the entire company.  The Design/Build Project Manager must also attend to and complete all record keeping and administrative requirements related to the job while creating and maintaining a professional job atmosphere.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS

  • To coordinate and manage all field production activities, ensuring quality standards are maintained

  • Maintains strict adherence to contracts, schedules and budgets

  • Understand contract specifications and ensures customers complete satisfaction

  • Provide most recent documentation and instructions to field staff to ensure Design/Build Foremen and crews are prepared to complete jobs

  • Ensures all work is completed in adherence to safety policies and guidelines.  Conducts weekly safety training and safety inspections on job-sites

  • Investigates any accident or safety violation, prepares appropriate reports, takes action steps to correct and prevent future occurrences.  Defines and implements solutions to recurring accidents or most common hazards

  • Maintains proper inventory of materials, equipment and other supplies to complete production activities and eliminate waste

  • Order materials, equipment and supplies within purchasing limits

  • Supervise employees, keep attendance records, enforce proper uniform and safety equipment use, and approve time records

  • Overall human resource management of field staff within division; hiring, firing, training, coaching, mentoring and developing staff to reach potential

  • Maintain sufficient staff to accomplish production schedules and forecast demand

  • Conduct timely performance review of direct reports and take corrective actions when appropriate

  • Visit job sites regularly, observe organization of work, identify and resolve training issues, and taking necessary actions to ensure quality

  • Respond to customer complaints to achieve highest level of customer satisfaction

  • Maintain day-to-day working knowledge of all contracts in progress, including field completion status

  • Coordinate the use of labor, equipment, materials and other resources with other divisions as needed

  • Schedule utility locates

  • Proactively identify potential problems within production and find resolution to minimize damage/risk and identify opportunities for gain

  • Make recommendations regarding qualifying or disqualifying warranty work.  Coordinates completion of warranty work per contract and/or instructions of design team

  • To manage personal effectiveness (competency, trust, communication, etc.) to maximize sales opportunities and develop customer relationships

  • To provide and maintain excellent customer service

  • Ensure all field reporting and records are completed accurately and flow effectively between field and office

  • Proficient in or able to learn scheduling and estimating software

SEASONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and prepare routing, staffing, and materials for snow removal

  • Provide quality assurance of snow removal by conducting random checks

  • Maintain inventories of salt, sand, sidewalk deicer

  • Provide training in snow removal technique of plows, spreaders, 4 wheeler and walk behinds

EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor Degree in Horticulture/Turf Management and/or 5-10 years directly relevant experience.

  • Two years supervisory experience

  • Spanish speaking preferred but not required

  • Knowledge of computer applications and customer relationship management (CRM) software

  • Posses a valid driver’s license and must be insurable on company’s insurance policy

  • Attain and retain a CDL class A combination license

  • Pass a pre-employment and ongoing random drug tests


WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must maintain regular and reliable attendance at a level acceptable to the company, including the ability to work overtime, holidays, evenings or weekends as necessary

  • Must be able to lift/carry 75 lbs. on a regular and consistent basis,  move about the work site

  • Exposed to exterior elements (i.e. pollen, chemicals, cold and heat, etc.)

  • Requires extended periods of activity; walking, standing, kneeling, bending and lifting

  • Typical work week requires 45-60 hours, some Saturdays as needed
