A dense, compact, often narrow-pyramidal to broad-pyramidal evergreen, arborvitae are a long time landscape favorite for small evergreen hedges and specimen plants. Many varieties are single stemmed and upright, though they can also be found in small globe form or large spreading. Scale-like foliage is aromatic and green to yellow-green in color, often with a tint of bronze in winter months.

Prefers moist, well-drained, loamy soil but tolerant of a wide range of conditions. Will not tolerate drought. Plant in full sun to part shade. Avoid overly sunny, windy sites to reduce risk of winter burn.
