Tart and juicy, rhubarb is a prized perennial plant for Wisconsin gardeners. Ruby red stalks are harvested in spring and make fantastic pies, preserves, and baked goods. Colorful stalks and large, flat leaves have some ornamental value but be sure to provide with adequate space. Note that while the stalks of rhubarb are edible, leaves are toxic and should be avoided.

Vigorous and easy to grow. Prefers moist, well-drained, organically rich soil but is overall adaptable. Sandy soils should be amended with organic matter before planting.
