A lovely plant for year-round interest. Spring blooms of creamy white attract pollinators and often produce interesting fruits. Foliage is light green and full, making for a good choice of hedge. Select varieties have excellent fall color. Many varieties provide winter interest as leaves drop, revealing dramatic scarlet red or bright yellow branches.

Prefers moderately moist soils but is overall adaptable. Avoid drought for best results. Prune out old growth in mid winter. Performs well in part sun, but adapts well to full sun.
