A highly unique accent tree or shrub, smoke tree produce airy panicles of flowers in summer which look like smoke, giving this plant its common name. Blooms in shades of pink, purple, white, and green. Foliage is often green or burgundy in color, intensifying in fall to shades of orange and red for late-season interest.

Prefers well-drained soils, will not tolerate standing water. Tolerant of sandy soil or rocky, poor, infertile soil. Water deeply to establish during the first season, then reduce frequency in subsequent years. Full sun.
